Commemorating Flag Day and The Pledge of Allegiance

Flag Day celebrates the history of the U.S. flag annually on June 14.

Celebrating the history of the U.S. flag the “Stars and Stripes,” the U.S. President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation establishing the June 14 as Flag Day in May 1916. These celebrations include:

  • Flying the flag in front of residences
  • Participating in parades
  • holding other patriotic events

On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress adopted the “Stars and Stripes” as the original American flag.
The same flag was used when the Declaration of Independence was signed to give a flag for the entire country rather than each state having their own. -google

According to ushistory.org, The Pledge of Allegiance was written in August 1892 by the socialist minister Francis Bellamy (1855-1931).

The original Bellamy salute in 1892:
“I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” … “Bellamy had hoped that the pledge would be used by citizens in any country.”

In 1923, it read …
“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

In 1954,
“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Have I sworn allegiance to the republic? I did. In an ever changing world one hopes to see a good cause well interpreted and served. Everyday I find myself inclined to lean on such high hopes as an all-american … possessing qualities characteristic of American ideals … such as honesty, industriousness, and health … (according to google as only a few among many that are utterable and touched on) and for a good cause as a Korean who immigrated to U.S. and became a good citizen who loves to root for heightening a national glory. 대~한민국

Faith is …

Pledging … “an allegiance is a duty of fidelity said to be owed, or freely committed, by the people, subjects or citizens to their state or sovereign.” (Wikipedia). A loyalty or commitment of a subordinate to a superior or of an individual to a group or cause.

On this June 14, I sincerely commemorate Flag Day in U.S. history as I ponder on the American value once more especially that are all-american values. What to reveal its real nature or character the true color has been the “Stars and Stripes” the U.S. flag. It’s pretty as well as solemn in my personal view as the Korean counterpart – a person or thing holding a position or performing a function that corresponds to that of another person or thing in another place.

The rose is the U.S. national floral emblem, or national flower of the United States. Senate Joint Resolution 159, which adopted the rose as the national floral emblem and asked the president to declare it as such with a proclamation, was passed in 1986 and was signed by President Ronald Reagan on Oct. 7 of the same year.
